Jerry Kline ’93 is one of the most beloved veteran teachers at CDH. Indeed, he is known not only for his role as the Phy-Ed teacher but also the head boys varsity basketball coach. Mr.Kline has done much more during his 24 years working here. He was the Phy-Ed teacher between 2000 and 2002, then he became a dean of students for around 20 years. A few years ago, he followed his heart back to teaching Phy-Ed again. His favorite part of being a gym teacher is getting to know the students.
“Each and every one of them is unique and different; it makes it so much fun.”
Kline was a student at CDH and a “proud-to-be” ’93 alumni. During his four years as a high schooler, Kline was a tri-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He wasn’t just a student athlete, but also a dedicated musical individual, who took part in the band, the drums or percussion, up to sophomore year when it began to become too much to handle between sports and grades. In addition to his involvement at CDH, Kline enjoyed being involved with his community, so he was a part of various committees and clubs as well. Kline attended Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia, where he met his wife, Alice Kline. In college, Kline played division two basketball. Kline doesn’t take any of his time at C-DH for granted because of the strong connection and he feels honored and blessed to be a significant pillar of C-DH. He has never pictured himself anywhere else, and considers CDH to be his second home. “This is what I know,” says Kline, but that doesn’t mean his view hasn’t widened. He is always curious on how public schools or other institutions operate to ensure that C-DH can improve and grow.
